Canadian nurse travels to Mexico for treatment

Recently, SecondStreet.org spoke with Christina Sanford, a nurse from Nova Scotia who had no choice but to travel to Mexico for back surgery.

While Canada’s health care system was content to prescribe her opioids and painkillers for the rest of her life, Christina couldn’t take the pain any longer. She also couldn’t take sitting on the sidelines while her children grew up.

“My oldest is kind of confused because she keeps asking me, ‘how come you’re doing this, shouldn’t you be careful? Might your back hurt a little bit?’ Because she’s still not quite sure how my back got better and how I’m able to take them to the playground…”
